Hurricane Donna was first noted at hurricane strength on September 2 in the tropical north Atlantic.  The cyclone
moved west-northwest for roughly 2000 miles passing through the extreme northeast Lesser Antilles, passing
70 miles  north of Puerto Rico and into the Florida Straits.   The graphics below show the rainfall across Puerto

The center moved across the middle Florida Keys between 2 and 3 a.m. on the 10th, striking the mainland south
of Naples while recurving north-northeast, passing back into the Atlantic Ocean near Daytona Beach and then
along the east coast before moving across Long Island into New England.  Donna was the first major hurricane
