Storm Summary Number 4 for Major Coast to Coast Winter Storm
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
900 AM CST Thu Feb 23 2023

...Heavy snow to wind down across the Midwest, while freezing rain
spreads into New England today...

Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for portions of New
England.

For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov

At 800 AM CST...An expansive, but weakening storm system continues
to track across the Plains and into the Midwest. A sweeping Arctic
cold front continued to press through the Midwest and Southern
Plains, separating frigid Arctic air in the Plains from
Spring-like weather across the Southeast. National Weather Service
radar and surface observations show a broad area of moderate to
heavy snowfall occurring north and west of the aforementioned low
pressure system across the Upper Midwest. Meanwhile, a scattered
mix of snow and freezing rain was noted over parts of the Interior
Northeast and New England.

Periods of heavy snow will continue this morning from the Midwest
and northern Great Lakes to the Northeast, although the overall
heavy snow threat will wind down through the afternoon. Meanwhile,
periods of freezing rain will continue over New England through
Friday morning. Localized ice accumulation upwards of .25" are
possible, especially over portions of western and central
Massachusetts. This lead to treacherous travel conditions and
scattered power outages in the region of heaviest freezing rain.
Frigid temperatures will stick around in wake of the storm system
as snow and ice conclude by Friday morning. Wind chills at times
will be below zero from the Upper Midwest to the interior
Northeast both Friday and Saturday mornings.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 900 PM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
