Storm Summary Number 5 for Four Corners to Great Lakes Winter Storm
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
900 PM CST Fri Feb 17 2023
...Light to moderate rain and snow make their way offshore...
Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for portions of New York
south of Buffalo.
For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov
At 800 PM CST...A strong cold front was progressing off the East
Coast with several waves of low pressure located along the
boundary, the deepest of which was centered just south of Halifax,
Nova Scotia with a minimum central pressure of 995 mb (29.38 in
Hg). Latest surface observations and RADAR indicated the vast
majority of the snow has moved offshore and into Canada to the
north of the frontal boundary. Some light to moderate rainfall was
lingering over southern and coastal New England, which was making
its way offshore. Temperatures behind the cold front were rapidly
decreasing over eastern New England, leading to some light snow
showers on the back side of the system. In addition, light lake
effect snow is being observed across portions of western and
Upstate New York, where temperatures are coldest.

Precipitation will end later this evening for the remaining
portions of Maine, Rhode Island, and southern Massachusetts as
this storm system continues to move offshore toward the Atlantic
Ocean. For portions of southeastern New England, a brief
transition to light snow is possible before precipitation ends.
Any additional snowfall accumulations associated with this storm
system will be light, and likely limited to coastal Maine. To the
west, light lake effect snow will continue to fall across much of
New York, Pennsylvania, and elevated areas of the Appalachians
overnight.
This will be the last Storm Summary issued by the Weather
Prediction Center for this event. Please refer to your local
National Weather service office for additional information.
