...Light to moderate snowfall confined to northern portions of
interior New England, as moderate rainfall continues ahead of
potent cold front...
Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for northern Maine.
Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for portions of the Great
Lakes and interior New England.

At 800 AM CST...A strong cold front was progressing eastward
across the Eastern Seaboard with several waves of low pressure
located along the boundary, the deepest of which was centered in
central Upstate New York with a minimum central pressure of 997 mb
(29.44 in Hg). Latest surface observations and RADAR indicated
light to moderate snow confined to interior Upstate New York and
northern Maine, north of the frontal boundary, with moderate to
locally heavy rainfall situated ahead of the cold front across the
Mid-Atlantic. Furthermore, temperatures in the wake of the
boundary had plunged 10-20 degrees, as a very cold airmass sets in
with many locations across the northern Plains and Midwest having
alreay had dipped into the single digits and teens during the
Friday morning hours.

Additional snowfall will be limited to northern stretches of
interior New England through the afternoon, with the heaviest
amounts forecast to fall in the northern third of Maine, where
snowfall totals may reach a foot in localized areas. Lighter
amounts of 1-3" are possible across Upstate New York, New
Hampshire, and Vermont, as precipitation switches to light snow
and sleet behind the frontal boundary passage. Further south,
moderate to heavy rainfall will continue to fall ahead of the cold
front, with conditions beginning to improve from west to east late
this evening as precipitation pushes offshore.
