...Widespread Sleet and Freezing Rain continue across the Southern
Plains and Mid-South...
Ice Storm Warnings are in effect for parts of west, central, and
north Texas, southeastern Oklahoma, northern Mississippi, western
Tennessee, and much of Arkansas.
Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for large portions of Texas,
southern Oklahoma, and southwestern Arkansas.
A large swath of Winter Weather Advisories are in effect from West
Texas and southeastern New Mexico to western Tennessee.

At 800 PM CST...A low pressure center was positioned over northern
Georgia and northwestern South Carolina with a cold front
extending to the southwest across the Florida panhandle and
offshore of the northern Gulf Coast. The front connects to a
second low pressure center in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico.
This boundary has been slowly moving southeast over the past two
days while high pressure gradually builds to the north. The slow
moving nature of the front has resulted in a prolonged period of
precipitation focused on the northern side of the front. High
pressure has been pushing colder air into the south, which has
resulted in widespread sleet and freezing rain across the southern
Plains and Mid-South. Radar and surface observations show
widespread precipitation from west Texas to Tennessee and
Kentucky.

The frontal boundary is forecast to remain nearly stationary over
the Southeast through Thursday, then gradually push south of the
United States on Friday as another frontal boundary approaches
from the north. Rounds of sleet and freezing rain are expected to
continue across parts of the southern Plains and Mid-South into
Thursday, then precipitation will shift into the Southeast as rain
on Friday. Additional ice accumulations from one tenth to half an
inch will be possible in parts of the southern Plains and
Mid-South through Thursday evening. Accumulating ice on roadways
will cause treacherous travel conditions, especially on bridges
and overpasses. Prolonged power outages and tree damage are
likely.
