Current precipitation over the the southern Plains is expected to
gradually weaken through tonight as the system makes its way
eastward. Additional accumulations over this area will be light,
ranging from a glaze in northern Texas to 2" in portions of
eastern Oklahoma. Over the Mississippi River Valley, snowfall will
become heavier as moist air is brought northward from Gulf of
Mexico, providing ample moisture to maintain and increase
precipitation rates. A widespread area of 3-6" of snow is expected
to accumulate over northern Arkansas, southern Missouri, and
southwest Illinois through Wednesday. Widespread winter
precipitation will continue on Wednesday as the low pressure
tracks through the Ohio Valley, bringing the threat of heavy snow
and ice to regions of the Great Lakes and the Northeast. In the
Great Lakes region, accumulations will generally range from 4-8"
(locally higher) over northern Indiana, far southern Michigan, and
portions of northwest Ohio. Over the Northeast and Appalachians,
precipitation will start out as snow on Wednesday. As the low
deepens over the over the Gulf of Maine, a significant portion of
southern New England will switch from snow to mixed precipitation
Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Ice accumulations of up to
0.1" is expected across regions extending from the northern
Appalachians through New England. Due to snow load and ice
accretion, roads will become extremely slick across a wide swath
of the nation, which will create hazardous travel conditions.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 900 AM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
