The core of the low pressure system is forecast to execute an
unusual cyclonic loop over the central U.S. through the next
couple of days and gradually weaken. Blizzard or near blizzard
conditions are expected to spread westward and reach peak
intensity tonight across the warned areas in the northern Plains
to central High Plains. Total snowfall accumulations of more than
6 inches will be common across western South Dakota into western
Nebraska and portions of the central High Plains. The heaviest
snowfall of more than 18 inches is possible within locally
enhanced snowbands across western South Dakota into western
Nebraska. In addition, freezing rain is expected to impact areas
farther to the northeast across northern South Dakota to
southeastern North Dakota where up to half an inch of ice
accretion is possible, with lighter amounts across northern
Minnesota. The snow, ice, and wind are expected to persist across
these areas through much of Wednesday while gradually becoming
less heavy and less windy as the low pressure system weakens.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 900 AM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
