Storm Summary Number 3 for Southeast Heavy Rain Event
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
500 PM EST Tue Mar 28 2023

...Heavy rain showers continue along the Central Gulf Coast into
Southeast...

Scattered Flood Warnings are in effect for parts of Louisiana,
Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.

For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov

At 400 PM EST...A quasi-stationary frontal boundary was located
over the Southeast, stretching from the southern Louisiana coast
eastward toward the Carolinas. Southerly flow aloft combined with
an unstable air mass to the south of the front are contributing to
several rounds of heavy, convective rainfall across portions of
the Southeast near the frontal boundary, resulting in flash
flooding. NWS Radar and satellite imagery currently show several
areas of showers and thunderstorms scattered across southern
Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida Panhandle that are
producing rainfall rates of up to 1-2+ inches per hour. Flash
flooding concerns are further amplified by wet antecedent soil
conditions across much of the axis of the heaviest rainfall,
especially in southern Mississippi and Alabama.

This front is forecast to remain relatively stationary through
Tuesday and into the evening, before pushing offshore overnight as
a cold front. Given moist southerly flow aloft and an unstable air
mass, more convective thunderstorms are expected to continue
throughout the day today before tapering off this evening with the
cold frontal passage. Additional rainfall totals may reach 3-4
inches locally, with isolated to scattered risks of flash flooding
possible.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1100 PM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
