Conditions will continue to deteriorate across the Northeast
tonight, as the aforementioned rapidly-intensifying low-pressure
system moves northeastward toward southern New England. For
portions of the interior Northeast, snowfall rates within the most
intense snow band may reach upwards of 2-3" per hour. As the low
approaches coastal New England, northwesterly flow will wrap cold
temperatures around the western side of the low-pressure,
resulting in the eventual changeover from rain to snow for many
areas along the coast, including Boston and New York. In all,
snowfall totals of 12" or higher are expected across much of New
England, with locally higher amounts of 24-30" possible in the
higher terrain. For areas closer to the coast (including Boston
and New York), a sharp gradient of snowfall is expected. The
heavy-wet nature of the snow combined with max wind gusts of 55
mph will result in scattered to widespread power outages and tree
damage. Moreover, widespread minor and localized moderate coastal
flooding and beach erosion are forecast tonight through Wednesday
as the low pressure deepens and stalls off the New England coast.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1100 AM EDT. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
