At 600 AM PST...The original low pressure center that brought the
initial atmospheric river is now weakening, with a minimum
pressure of 984mb (29.05 in Hg) is located about 350 miles (600
km) south of Juneau, AK. However, new dominant low pressure
center, with a minimum pressure of 976 mb (28.82 in Hg) is located
about 750 miles west of Portland, OR. This new dominant low
contains a wide swath of heavy precipitation currently making its
way toward the California/Oregon coastline. Latest surface
observations and RADAR indicate relatively dry conditions across
much of central and southern California with some light to
moderate precipitation falling over northern California. There is
also some moderate rain and snow falling ahead of the original
frontal boundary in the Intermountain West, particularly in
southeastern Idaho, northern Utah, and western Colorado.

Precipitation associated with the first atmospheric river has
mostly subsided by this morning, but the next atmospheric river
event is forecast to arrive tonight into northern California,
before spreading southward to the central portion of the state on
Saturday. Widespread additional rainfall of 3-5+", with locally
heavier cases possible, is expected tonight and into this weekend
from this next atmospheric river event. Though these are lesser
accumulations than the previous atmospheric river, the cumulative
effect of an additonal several inches of rainfall after recent
heavy precipitation will lead to considerable flood impacts this
weekend, including rapid water rises and mudslides over northern
and central California. Additionally, flash flooding and debris
flows are possible over burn scar areas. An additional 1-2 feet of
snow this weekend over the Klamath Mountains and Sierra Nevada
will lead to dangerous travel conditions, especially over 5000
feet.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 700 PM PST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
