...Heaviest snow to focus downwind of Lake Ontario tonight... 

Lake Effect Snow Warnings are in effect for downwind portions of
Lake Ontario in Upstate New York.

At 900 PM EST...National Weather Service Doppler radar detected an
intense and narrow band of lake effect snow streaming to the east
of Lake Ontario. Cold air and west-northwesterly winds aloft
continue to support an environment that is favorable for lake
effect snowfall downwind of Lake Ontario where winds align with
the long fetch of the lake.

The snowfall should begin to subside from west to east through
tonight as the favorable wind trajectories and cold air aloft over
the Lakes begins to wane following an influx of warmer air from
the southwest as surface ridging over the Mid-Mississippi Valley
translates eastward.
