Erie and Ontario, gradually translating south with time. The
uptick of this lake effect band is in response to increasing
westerly winds related to an approaching cold front analyzed over
the Central Ohio Valley. Behind the front, radar and surface
observations observed moderate to heavy snowfall ongoing downwind

As the aforementioned cold front passes through the Interior
Northeast tonight, winds shifting to west or west-northwest will
bring an influx of colder air to support continued heavy snow
shifting south toward the Buffalo and Watertown vicinity. As with
the earlier episodes of lake effect snow, snowfall rates with this
activity will reach 2-3 inches per hour and combine with gusty
winds to produce near-zero visibility and dangerous travel. The
snowfall should begin to subside from west to east through
tomorrow as the favorable wind trajectories and cold air advection
over the Lakes begins to end following the passage of a surface
ridge and subsequent warmer air behind it.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 AM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
