NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
1000 AM EST Tue Feb 02 2021
...Moderate to heavy snow continues to impact the Northeast...
Winter Storm Warnings are in effect over portions of the Tennessee
Valley and much of the Northeast.
Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for parts of the Ohio
Valley/Mid-Atlantic and up through parts of the interior Northeast.
Coastal Flood Watches, Advisories and Warnings are in effect for
portions of east-central Delaware to the southern coastline of
Maine.
For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov
At 700 AM EST...A low pressure center with a central pressure of
990 mb, or 29.23 inches of mercury, was located in the western
Atlantic, about 120 miles east of Atlantic City, New Jersey. An
occluded front extended from this low to another area of low
pressure located about 100 miles east of Cape Cod, along the
triple point of the occluded/cold/warm fronts in the western
Atlantic. To the west and north of these features, National
Weather Service radars and surface observations indicated
generally light to moderate snow was occurring across much of the
Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, with pockets of heavy snow
particularly over northern New York. Some freezing rain and mixed
precipitation were observed over coastal Maine into parts of
southern New England, while rain was falling in eastern
Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The surface low along the triple point is forecast to become
dominant and move slowly northward just offshore of New England
through early Wednesday. Additional snowfall in excess of 8 inches
is expected across parts of Maine and the Adirondacks of New York,
with moderate accumulations of 6 inches or more aided by lake
effect snow likely in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Some
light freezing rain could also continue in New England, mainly in
coastal Maine, but with accumulations likely remaining below a
tenth of an inch. Travel will likely remain impeded today across
the Northeast due to additional snow and residual impacts from
Monday's snow.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 AM EST Wed Feb 03 2021. Please refer to your local
National Weather Service office for additional information on this
event.
