of 988 mb, or 29.18 inches of mercury, was located along the coast
of northern California. This low was occluded with a cold front
stretching southwestward into the Pacific. In addition, a
stationary front was draped north of the surface low oriented

This current system will continue to move across the West
throughout Thursday afternoon and evening. Another low pressure
system will follow and make landfall in northern California late
Thursday night. Between now and Sunday morning, 1-2 feet of new
snowfall is expected across the Cascades of Washington and Oregon,
with 1-3 feet across the northern and central Rockies, in addition
to the Shasta and Siskiyou ranges of northern California. The
Sierra Nevada of eastern California is expected to receive 3-5
feet of new snowfall with locally higher amounts from this system.
Such significant snowfall carries an avalanche risk and threatens
to close major roadways and interstate routes in the area once
heavy snow begins to pile up. At lower elevations, southwestern
Oregon and California coastal regions are expected to receive 3-6
inches of additional rainfall through Thursday evening, with
locally higher amounts possible. The heavy rain could lead to
flooding, especially across the burn scar areas of California.
The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 100 PM PST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
